What is lateral penetrating damp

Lateral penetrating damp refers to the sideways movement of moisture from the ground. It affects basement walls and other earth-retaining walls. Structural waterproofing barriers or tanking barriers are used to protect internal surfaces against the affects of lateral penetrating dampness. These waterproofing processes allow damp, unusable basements to be converted to habitable space.
