Ultrovent test results returned! - 11/01/2011

The range of Ultrovent passive ventilation units along with a competing product was recently tested by the Wolfson Industrial Aerodynamics Unit at Southampton University.

The testing process is shown in the above photograph reproduced with the permission of Southampton University. The test procedure included the use of static pressure tappings upstream and downstream of an applied pressure through a ventilation duct. The pressure differences were measured with a micro manometer. A thermal anemometer measured air velocity at the exit from the ventilation duct. Measurements were taken at 9 separate points from which an average flow velocity was calculated to determine the volume flow rate.

Barry Deakin is the Principle Research Engineer at the Wolfson Unit M.T.I.A. at Southampton University and is shown in the above photograph. After conducting the testing, Barry stated:

“The measured data indicate that the Ultrovent will permit a greater flow of air into or out of the building than will the other manufacturer’s vent”.

Ultrovents are manufactured by S & D Innovations Ltd and are available from a number of retail outlets including dampexpert.com & Triton Chemical Manufacturing Co Ltd.

Insulation goes slimline - 10/09/2010

There is an increasing number of thin layer insulation products on the market aimed at refurbishment work.

Dampexpert.com will be offering one soon called ‘ultrotherm’. It is probably the most versatile as it accepts various types of plaster coats and can be extended across the floor under laminate coverings. Ultrotherm can be used to insulate walls and ceilings where space is at a premium and even gets into window reveals without too much difficulty. It is fast to install although more expensive than sheet materials such as thermal board. Installing sheet material or slab insulation however creates a number of problems which add to the installation costs including repositioning of radiators and replacing of window boards.
