A Day In the Life of a Surveyor

19 Oct 2009 Dampexpert

Occasionally something quite extraordinary happens in an otherwise routine day. The incident can be good or bad, serious or funny. This one falls into the latter category.

As I approached the front door of a property scheduled for survey I could hear a dog barking quite loudly. With a little trepidation I knocked on the door. The door was opened with no sign of a dog. Suspecting an ambush I entered the property slowly. Still no sign of the dog as the front door was closed. Perhaps it was waiting for the right moment to attack. Having completed the usual pleasantries I continued with the survey. The barking started again and it was clear the dog was outside the front door. The property owner went to the door and let the dog in. The dog proceeded to run wildly around the house, begging the question as to whether it was the dog or owner that was in greatest need of training. I completed the survey and made my way to the front door. As I was leaving, the property owner said “don’t forget your dog”.  I paused for a moment and looked back at the property owner before replying: “that’s not my dog!”  The look on the man’s face left a smile on mine for the rest of the day.
